Searching for Information



The search dialog is reached from the 'Search' menu option on the Edit Menu. Figure 1. shows you an example of what the search dialog looks like.

Tip: If you know that you will want to save a search results as a separate collection, create a new view and open that view, before you open the search dialog. In this way, you will be ready to save the search results directly into this new view.

There are several search parameters that you can apply to a search and they have been divided over three tabbed panes. The first tabbed pane shows the following, and most commonly used,  parameters:


Parameter

Description

Keywords

Here you can specify text to search for.

You can select whether this text should be searched for in the node label and/or the node detail.

You can also choose whether the search should match any listed or all listed keywords.

N.B. You should note that the text search is not case-sensitive.

Context

Here you can select to search the current view only, all views, or all views and deleted objects.

 

The second tab looks like figure 2 and allows you to set node type and tag options:

Parameter

Description

Node Type

Here you can narrow your search down to one or more Node Types only.

Tags

Here you can narrow your search down to nodes which have one or more specific tags assigned to them.

You can also qualify this to searching for nodes with any of the selected tags assigned, or nodes with all the selected tags assigned.

 

The third tab looks like figure 3 and allows you to set date and author options:


Parameter

Description

Date Created

Here you can narrow you search down to nodes created on or between certain dates.

Date Modified

Here you can narrow your search down to nodes last modified on or between certain dates.

Author

Here you can narrow you search down to nodes created by one or more author only.


When you have entered all the search parameters you wish, press the 'OK' button. You search will be run and any results will be displayed in a search results window similar to figure 4:

If you wish to copy one or more nodes into the current view, select the relevant node/s from the list, and press the 'Insert into View" button. This will perform a transclusion of the nodes in the list, into the current view, provided they are not already in that view.

If you wish to view the details of any of the nodes in the search result then double-clicking on the node in the list, or press the enter key and this will open the relevant contents window. From the content dialog you can access the View tab and locate the node in any of its views if you wish.

If you wish to perform another search, press the 'Search Again' button to return to the search dialog.
