User Administration



To access the user administration facilities, go to the 'Tools' menu and select 'User Manager'. This will open a User Manager dialog window similar to the one in figure 1 below:

There are two tabs on this window. The first tab controls user maintenance and the second tab has two additional features especially for  for people user compendium with only one user. 

User Maintenance

Adding a New User

To add a new user press the 'New...' button in the User Manager dialog window (see figure 1). This will open New User dialog window, as in figure 2 below

Enter the user details, as requested, in each of the fields.

The 'Author Name' is important to complete as it is the name you wish to be known as when you export maps and share them with other people. It is this name that is stored against all nodes and links that you create. The 'Description' field is optional.

The 'Login Name' and 'Password' fields will be used as the login information, which that user will need to know to access Compendium.

At the bottom of the dialog you will see the option to make this user an 'Administrator'. The default setting is 'No'.

Figure 3, below, shows example entries for a new a new user called Fred Bloggs.

N.B. The password entered must be one character or more. If you do not enter a password you will be shown an error message.
Once you have completed entering the details for the new user, press the 'OK' button to save them. If you don't want to add the new user after all, just press the 'Cancel' button. In either case you will be returned to the User Manager dialog. If you did save the new user, you will see that their name has appeared in the user list, (see figure 5, below, where Fred Bloggs has now appeared).

If you have no more user management to do, just press the 'Close' button to return to the main application.


Modifying a User

To modify a user, first select the user from the list in the User Manager dialog window (see figure 1), an then press the 'Modify...' button. This will open Modify User dialog window, as in figure 6 below.

Make any changes to the user details you wish, and then press the 'OK' button the save those changes. If you don't want to save your changes, press the 'Cancel' button instead.

N.B. The password entered must be one or more characters long. If you do not enter a password you will be shown an error message.

If you have no more user management to do, just press the 'Close' button to return to the main application.


Deleting a User

To delete a user first select the user from the list in the User Manager dialog window (see figure 1)., an then press the 'Delete' button. You will then be shown a confirmation dialog window, as in figure 7 below.

If you are sure you want to delete that user, press 'OK', otherwise press 'Cancel' to stop the deletion. If you press 'OK', the user will be deleted from the database. You will then be shown a dialog window similar to the one below, as confirmation of the deletion, (see figure 8).

Press the 'OK' button, which will close that dialog and return you to the User Manager dialog, where you will see that the user deleted has been removed from the list. (see figure 9)

If you have no more user management to do, just press the 'Close' button to return to the main application.

 

Sinlge User System Options

This tab looks like figure 10 and has two options:

The first check box allows you to setup the default user for the current project you are logged into as the current user. If you check this then next time you go to the login window and select that project the login details will be automatically completed for you. You can set this up for each project you create.

The second check box allows to to set the current project as the default project. If you check this box, you also need to have the first box check, (it will check it for you if you have not done so), then next time you open Compendium (or a connection to the current MySQL application you are connected to), it will automatically log you into that project.

N.B. If you wish to change the default project, you must uncheck the one you have set as default first, then open the new default project and check the box there, or specify a newly created database as the default when creating it, (see Creating a New Project).)
